assignment

In   your own words and using referenced quotes describe what “strategic management” is?
The successful  management of a  business depends on having  a  successful business strategy.  Strategy  usually includes  planning to achieve a better  performance than competitor. It is a long term  plan of various businesses that  intend to  reach some preferred state in future by changing its competitive position to meet changing  circumstances . so basically strategic  management  can  affect the future of the organisation.

2.       How is business strategy similar to military strategy? How  is it different?
The word strategy is derived from greek  word “strategos”. Stratos   means to lead and “Agein” means to  follow. So if we look into the past the main root of strategy is military. As in military there is complexity in making decisions. The business strategy is some what similar to  military strategy  because some of the definations clearly state that; Strategy is art of war. It is the process of thinking of being one step ahead of your enemy or not letting your enemy win;  in business also it is  the same as every organisations are focused in coming up with new ideas and being one step ahead of the other one so that they can survive in the competitive market. That dosent   mean  we can completely regard business strategy similar to military  strategy because  business strategy should have a definite policy, it has to be theoretical and based on research and development  proper action plan.  There are three levels off strategy they are corporate level strategy,  business level strategy and  operational level strategy a business  strategy should definitely have a visionary and a meaningful statement.

3.       What do  you understand by the  terms  “Strategic analysis”, “strategic development”, and “strategic implementation”.
Strategic analysis: is about understanding the environment,  its is more about research and have  a certain vision to  work on.

Strategic development: it is about formulating and implementing the research you have done previously, having certain  tactics and goals but before implementing them you should ask to  yourself WHAT is the outcome  from it.

Strategic implementations: it is basically about the operations how are you going to do it, what processes you need to follow, get the resources ready.

4.       Write about your experience with today’s  case study. What answers did you give?  Was it easy to answer  the questions ?  Did your group agree with each other.
Todays case study was about the development of three states in England those are Milton  Keynes,  Peterborough  and Swindon. Accourding to the data these states are developing in a fast pace .
Yes it was easy to  give  answers to the questions.  Not really everyone had their  own views for the  answers.

CASE STUDY : TEXAS IN THE SHIRES
1.       Why are Milton Keynes, Peterborough and  Swindon growing  rapidly? (list as many  answers as you can)
They  are small  towns and it  is easy  to  start  development  works.
The political  leaders are also more focused  in  the development of  the   city.
These towns were the chosen locations for expansion  by the government  in  1950 to  1960.
They are all on motorways connected to  London and have decent train  links.
They are in between big and developed cities; Milton  Keynes  is in  between London and Birmingham. Swindon is  in between  London and Bristol  and Peterborough is near Cambridge.

2.       Why  might  their  growth  strategy be ‘mad’ ?
Their growth  strategy might be regarded  mad because their is rapid  development and  less  planning as the place is cheap big companies are establishing their offices there,  more constructions, more immigrants everything  is making the place bit more chaotic.

3.        What  do  you think -  is it a good strategy  to  continue with?    (be ready to state your reasons)
Development is  always a  good strategy,  but it should be  done in a  planned way.

4.       Would you  live in any of these three towns? (list the reasons  why or why not)
I would definitely  live in  any of these towns because  the first and foremost reason  is it is cheap as it is a developing  there  are  more opportunities to work and settledown.
The reasons not to  live in these towns are  there are less  recreational  areas ,  no night life,  no  big  or renowned  colleges or  universities,  less means  of transportation  which  might make life  a bit hard.

week 3

The various school of thoughts are:
·         Design school
·         Planning school
·         Positioning school
·         The entrepreneurial school
·         The  cognitive school
·         The learning school
·         The power school

4. Write about your experience with today’s case study. What answers did you give to the questions?
Today’s Case study was about Google and it has questioned if Google’s magic will last long. But if you ask me Google is doing great as it coming up with various different ideas some have failed and some have been immensely successful.  The question was about Google’s strategy and I answered it was emergent.
CASE STUDY: HOW LONG WILL GOOGLE’S MAGIC LAST.
1.        Would you describe Google’s strategy as more deliberate or more emergent?
I would like to  say  Google’s  strategy  is  deliberate because they plan  very carefully before implementing an idea into action either that be buying YouTube, using anorid or the latest  Google  glasses.  They  have planned for  all  this, it is a  long term  plan with  intentional acts  in  order  to accomplish a  goal.

2.       What are the advantages of being very experimental
There are various advantages of being very experimental
·         You come  up  with new ideas
·         You  come up  with innovative  ideas
·         The ideas successes
·         You stand out in the crowd
·         You earn money,  name, fame
3.       What  are the  disadvantages of   being very experimental
·         Idea might fail sometimes
·         Experiment without  market  research doesn’t work
·         Risk of money
·         Risk of losing customers
·         Risk  of losing the reputation in the market
4.       What do you think of their strategy?
Google’s  strategy is deliberate strategy and yes they  are doing well but  if they do  not come up  with  new  ideas every time they might lose their top spot  and also  it wouldn’t be too  long for it to  turn a digital dinosaur.

assignment of week 1

Question 1
what are you  hoping to  learn  from this module(think generally  about  both knowledge  and  skills)
strategy and choices  seems like an interesting subject to  me. It allows you   to think generally, analytically and critically as  well.  i think it is also based on research  and  data  so i am  totally  looking forward to  it.
i am hoping that we can  learn how  to form  strategies  and ways  to  implement  them  in  general working environment. it will also enable  us to  make  the perfect choice out of many different given choices, the knowledge that we get from learning this module will give us the clear about  good beet and best. if we  didn't  have this  module i  don't think it would be possible  anyways.
it also makes us smarter in a sense that we  choose the best choice  out of the given  one  and it will have  a  better impact.

Question 2
How  might this module be useful  to you after  passing out of institution (think specifically about what you want to  do when you leave)
strategy and choices is basically  about thinking  critically and  making the right  decision for the proper functioning of any  organisation.  there is  zero possibility of proper  functioning of   any  organisation  without  a  proper  strategical decision. strategy  and choices is followed universally and also motivates in planned social change. it  is not  only  about making the best  choice out of a strategical decision but also  about  the attitude and  behavior.
I being and business student obviously want to enter in business sector after i pass out  from  this  institution  taking the knowledge and idea that i get from studying  strategy choices and impacts. it will help me to think  critically and make a smart choice. there is a saying with power comes responsibilities.  i know this module will  make me responsible in what ever  i do  in the future.  in business you don't only  face successes  sometimes you  have to face failure as well

Question 3
Describe  three  things  you will do  that will  help you learn and to  get good marks  on this module.
Strategy impacts and choices  is a  wonderful  subject  to  study  as our  lecturer always says how  are  my future manager it makes  me feel that I am training to  be become a manager in the near future.
There are different things that I  will  get to learn from this wonderful  subject  which will help  me to get good  marks in  this subject. First thing I have to focus on to get good marks in this module is to:

* Maintain my blog:
As my lecturer as mentioned earlier 40% of my marks I get  is my maintaining my blog and doing my assignments  on  time so i don't get less  marks, we get to do an assessment every week and if we  finish the assessment the  same week we get more marks as it is  dated on our blog. So completing the task and the projects on time will  definitely help me in getting good marks in  this module

* Application of knowledge and presenting data:
In this module there is more of critical thinking and analyzing, we have to  do  case studies where we do critical  thinking and  apply our knowledge on  what  the case study is trying to  say and what is our level  of understanding about the certain issue to get to the core of it we have  to do more  researching, reading and  go  through the data and gain more knowledge about it. By  doing all  this will definitely help  me get good marks in  this module.

*Academic reading:
The lecture's job  is to give us a brief idea about the certain topic but its the students  job to do  some more reading and researching to develop  more knowledge about the topic just a brief knowledge is  never enough,  more  reading will help develop the level of analyzing,  researching and critical  thinking.

Question 4
Describe  three  things that offers  (your lecturer,  classmates   and  others)        could do  that would  help you  to learn  and get  good  marks on  this module.

*   Develop  knowledge and understanding:
This module will  help  in  developing the knowledge and understanding of various strategic  tools and help in gaining practical knowledge  about  the same topic. It will help in choosing the right strategic tool  and  apply them in a wide range  of  context.

* Employability:
Lecturer will help in developing  student employability level by developing  transferable  skills such as evaluating,  research and  developing,  analyzing,  decision  making,  presenting  skills,  evaluating  and implementing.
